I brought Mica out of retirement a few weeks ago. She is a mule and hasn't been ridden since the fall of 2008. For one reason or another my husband would find an excuse not to ride her. She is cranky, she is a b--tch, she is...the excuses kept on and on. Since I was working with Siera I never questioned him. GG and Mica always seemed a bit at odds with each other. So against GG's advice, I took Mica out of retirement. I worked with her for about an hour. This was the result of the difficult mule... Really? Really? Mica? Sweet quiet Mica? I put the saddle on her the next day and rode off without a hitch on a quiet well mannered mule. The next day I tossed GG's saddle on her and he got on. They got along just fine. Not a hitch nor did an argument ensue. Back out and enjoying life after cancer and a stroke. Outdoor life can bring you a sense of calm and wonder. And I do wonder often...

Mica is a beautiful mule! It's good to see GG riding again. And yes, outdoor life does bring tranquility back into ones life.

Mica looks like a beautiful mule ! I have mostly had horses, but I did have one mule, and he was the very best ever to ride, especially on the steep mountain trails. He belonged to a friend of mine, and he always let his girlfriend ride Sawdust, and one day when a semi with flapping tarps came by and scared the daylight out of all of the horses, I saw Sawdust just toodling along and taking care of that lady, who was a very novice rider. I was impressed , to say the least. When Gib offered to let me take Sawdust out on the trail ride, I decided to give it a try, and by the time we had come back home, I had traded my registered Morgan for the mule. Now, I live in town and can’t have any kind of animals except the usual dog or kitty, and we have 2 little dogs. Whenever I see a western on television, I am always wishing that I could still have another horse.
