Four years ago today, my wife and I celebrated our grandson's 2nd birthday. I was going through some photos from that day and remember what a great time a two year old can have with a large cardboard box. I took the box, cut some holes in it and he had a ball for nearly an hour. Some grandson/grandfather bonding time. Can't believe where the time has gone. I miss him and his sister so much.

Even though we don't get to see them often, we're doing what we can to maintain contact from afar. We've recorded nearly 100 stories for them on YouTube and it's become a regular part of their nighttime ritual.

Awww... what a cutie.
I've got my husband's family here for the weekend, and we see them often. Their son will be 5 on Friday. So he feels like my own grandson as we see them fairly often (5 hour drive). It's been fun with Easter candy etc.
I only see my own two granddaughters once a year, but we stay for about a month. Wish I could see them more often (aside from Skype) but that just can't happen.

Oh, and as for the box... We were visiting the family a few weeks ago and they had just had delivery on a new fridge. Grandson had a great time in that box!!

Great photos. I remember how much my kids liked to play in a big box when they were young.
What kinds of stories have you put on YouTube for them?

Great photos. I remember how much my kids liked to play in a big box when they were young. What kinds of stories have you put on YouTube for them? We go to the library and take out books that we can read in about five to as much as 15 minutes. We try to find stories with great illustrations. So, as an example, we recorded a story called "How Do Dinosaurs Get Well Soon." Wonderful pictures and a good message for little kids. I typically record them while my wife reads. I'll stand behind her with the camera and focus on the pages so that when the kids watch the video, it's as if they're sitting with their grandma as she reads to them. Our son has told us they really like this nightly routine. He likes it because he can put on a story and then go do a chore for a few minutes. We have recorded 99 stories for them so far and have a bunch more to record.

That is such a fun age, and that is one adorable little boy! It was a great visit that year. Now he's six and just so eager to share things he's learned. Yesterday on the call, he told us about how big a "box jellyfish" is. Then told us he knows all the names of the different dinosaurs. For his birthday we got him this book (he's soaking up facts at this age) and while he can't read it, he was loving the pictures.
