To TheSource , there's no bruising, swelling, and no nerve damage. If any combination of those were so, or if the pain was excruciating and I couldn't use the hand at all, I'd go to Emergency. I'll just be careful while awaiting May 1st. I do appreciate your concern, my friend. That's a relief to hear! Sounds like a simple dislocation now. Whew! If I may make a suggestion.....if you can, go to your drug store/pharmacy and have yourself fitted with a splint. They come in all varieties and sizes and can be worn at convenience when necessary. They're usually not too expensive depending on what you need or feel comfortable wearing. Immobilization should be the precedent at the moment 'till you are able to see you doctor.

Ouch! So sorry this happened. I do wish you would try to get in with a doctor sooner than May 1st. I worked in Orthopedic Surgery while in college and if a break/fracture heals improperly, it runs the possibility of needing to be re-broken and set so that it will heal properly and not cause further problems down the road. Keep us updated please.

If you have arthritis or osteoarthritis like I do, it could be osteoarthritis along with osteoporosis? I'd have that checked also. It is unfortunate that it seems that this sort of thing is creeping up on me also. I am so sorry that you have such long wait times to see a doctor!

About the same TheSource...thanks for asking! #huggy Gripping things, and making a fist, are the most uncomfortable. I do some 'pressing or pushing' actions with the 'heel' of my left palm instead of the centre, and I can pick up light things with just my left thumb & forefinger. For heavy or large items I use both hands, and have switched to the right hand for things like opening/closing doors. These strategies avoid discomfort, and it's surprising how quickly one adapts.
Ouch! I guess this means you will have to stop punching people huh? When you use that hand all the time even a small pain is so frustrating. It's surprising how much that can hurt.

When we remodeled the house, I went from door knobs to door levers, much easier on arthritic hands. Hope you are doing better.

I am so so sorry formerlyme ... I would consult with a good Orthopedic surgeon... There are treatments for this, and on it's own... It won't heal correctly Rebecca is right. Suspected fracture is something you go to the Emergency Room for - It will not heal properly if not casted to keep it from moving against each other. Breaks need to be immobilized to knit together. I've had a couple myself. Been there - done that

It's been a few days now... How's the hand doing formerlyme ? Thanks for asking TheSource. #huggy
I'd describe it as sore now, rather than painful, and comfortable when not in use. If I fully straighten that finger and bend it backward at all, that's the only time it really hurts, so I avoid doing that. I can uncurl that finger much further without the bone ends 'clicking' against each other when I curl the finger back into my palm. I find I can do most things that I need or want to do. If it isn't healed by the time I see my doctor May lst, I'll request an x-ray, and take it from there.
I did get a 'Swing-A-Way' jar opener, and it works like a charm.

Glad to hear some good news! Thank you. Still, have it looked at and do please get some x-rays.
I'm glad to hear also that you have gotten yourself a jar opener. You're probably wondering why you didn't get one sooner, huh?

I'm very glad I took your advice, should have got one years ago. Here's the style I got, and it's wonderful:

Good news!
I saw my family doctor today. She examined my hand and said there is no broken bone.
What I have is a 'ganglion cyst' in my palm, a kind of cyst that's usually attached to a joint or tendon, is filled with a thick jelly-like substance, and in some cases occurs after an injury. I suspect I injured a tendon in my hand trying to force open a jar top, following which the cyst quickly developed.
These ganglions can be painful, especially if they lie next to a nerve. Mine causes considerable discomfort, which I'm able to tolerate but certainly don't enjoy. Sometimes, but not often, these go away on their own. If in future mine remains unacceptably uncomfortable, arrangements could be made to have it surgically removed. I'll wait and see how it goes over time.
I am relieved that nothing is broken!

Glad to hear nothing was broken formerlyme! Still, where yours is located has to be painful because you have to use your hand. The more the hand is used, the larger it will grow over time. I have a small one, on the inside of my left wrist for about a year now. They are also known as a Bible cyst because people use a Bible to smash them in order to get rid of them. Surgery to remove one is usually the last thing used. Aspiration to drain the fluid from the cyst is usually tried first. I was told, if it becomes bothersome I could see a specialist to have it removed. I told my Dr that I could just as easily stick a needle in it and drain it myself. lol

Yes, Drifter, the location makes it difficult, especially because it's in the middle of the left palm and I'm left-handed. I've learned to do most things without putting undue pressure on the affected area, but it can be awkward at times.
