This year we'll be going to Porchview again. Kinda like my balconyview vacations, only more spacious.

Just found out.... my lovely trip to Dushanbe has been cancelled.... apparently they NOW feel that security is not strong enough to support senior staff members on a trek.... so Rookie and I have to stay stateside, and two lower level folks from my department are going in our place... dang.... We however will be allowed to go with the Airborne on a week long exercise with multiple drops and fun with rifles in the woods! not too bad... at least I'll get to do some jumps..... If any of you are in the North Carolina area during that week and see this Mouse dropping from the sky.... it's me!!

Every time I bring up a road trip, or even a weekend getaway, it comes down my wife's leg pain. Until we get that resolved, I don't think we're going anywhere. But then, given our possible plan to move next year I won't be surprised if we put off any expensive trips in favor of saving for the redecorating we'll have to do.

@bob hope your wife's pain can be eased. I know how much you love to travel.
I'm really looking forward to a trip to London the end of the month. We booked the train tickets months ago so got a great deal for First Class (free food and drink including beer and wine). Also get a good deal with our senior railcard. I love long train trips.

Going to London on Friday and staying for 3 nights. Taking the train down which I enjoy. Husband is Catholic and loves to see St Matthew Passion - a 3 hour performance by the Bach choir. I enjoy it as it's quite powerful. Bach Choir
Don't know what else we'll do - museums, walk along the Thames walkway which I really love.

it will be in June and I can't wait... I miss family very much I understand that! Do you go back every year? All my family are in the US (although I have a stepfamily here), including 2 granddaughters. We go back for a month every year during the summer. Leaving on May 30th this year.

I go back several time a year... sometimes for holidays... I like for Rebecca to come but always she has conflicts... but one day!! I not able to stay for long time because of my practice. Usually no more than week or 10 day or so. Everyone always glad to see me when I go. Usually big feast!! Then I travel all over to see relatives and friends. Most of all I just like being home... like they say... there is no place like home!!! My mother asked again... Will Rebecca be with you?? I said no Mom, Rebecca will be jumping out of airplanes..... My mother gasped... She said YOU are not going to jump are you??? I said no Mom... I have good sense!!

It's nice you get to go so often. I left the US at the age of 48 to get married (remarried), and I felt that Scotland was my home almost immediately and I've been here 17 years. My two sons were already well into adulthood when I left. I've never felt homesick for the US itself, but would like to see my family more often. I especially miss out on being more involved in my granddaughters lives.

I especially miss out on being more involved in my granddaughters lives. I loved moving to the United States and do not regret it as for one thing I had good education, found many opportunities and met my partner... So no I am not regretting however there is this pull at my heart for home.... the homesickness never fade....I talk on phone on weekends it just not the same. My siblings all think I was crazy to move to become citizen... but this is what I wanted... My mom really loves Rebecca a lot. They talk on phone all time! My mother has always been proud of me and sometime maybe TOO proud but it is a nice feeling to have full support. My mother jokes with her all time said to Rebecca "are you treating my daughter well?" haha MOM!!! The reason I like to have her go is that I just wanted Rebecca to enjoy herself for a bit and see my country through her own eyes and not my memories if that makes sense.
