Friday my city began a 4-week almost-total lockdown because of a sudden big recent increase in cases, with community spread. This is widely attributed to a group of visitors from the Province of Ontario (where things are totally out of control) a few weeks ago, who circulated locally and socialized with local residents without the required 2 weeks of self-isolation. I feel such contempt for those who behave irresponsibly by putting countless others at risk! I'd been planning on finally getting a long-overdue haircut this coming week, but must now wait at least another month. Grrrr!!! Even though I've had my first covid needle, I plan to play it safe by staying home during the lockdown. www.cbc.ca/news/world/coronavirus-covid19-canada-world-april25-2021-1.6001466And we had been doing so well up until this past week.

FL that is horrible. That is how I felt about school sports spreading it. My immediate family has all had their two shots and my youngest gd is good for 3 months since she had Covid.
Stay safe. Are they going to be giving out shots with the lockdown?

Yes, nkat, shots will be given during the lockdown; one of the few priority activities that will continue. It was announced in a news conference late this afternoon that a lot of the restrictions are now being enforced throughout the entire Province of Nova Scotia, although not as complete a list as for the city of Halifax and surrounding areas.

Nasal spray that kills COVID virus begins production in Israel. “A nasal spray that will be marketed as capable of killing 99.9 percent of virus particles has started rolling off production lines in an Israeli factory. The spray could have prevented much of the world’s COVID-19 infection, its inventor, Dr. Gilly Regev, told The Times of Israel. We are hoping that our nasal spray will now save many lives of people in countries that are waiting for the vaccine,” said Regev, an Israeli-raised biochemist who co-founded the company SaNOtize and developed the spray in Canada. “This will be affordable and can be used for prevention, to protect from any respiratory viral infection.” She said that it has been shown to be effective in the lab against a wide range of viruses, and said that new variants of the coronavirus won’t interfere with its effectiveness, emphasizing: “It contains a broad spectrum antiviral which kills all viruses and all variants.” www.timesofisrael.com/life-saving-nose-spray-that-kills-99-9-of-viruses-begins-production-in-israel/amp/

It was announced in a news conference late this afternoon that a lot of the restrictions are now being enforced throughout the entire Province of Nova Scotia, although not as complete a list as for the city of Halifax and surrounding areas. The lock-down started with my home city last week; starting tomorrow it will be totally enforced throughout the entire Province of Nova Scotia. Variants have gotten their 'feet in the door' here, so strong defensive measures are required. The number of known active cases has grown from less than l0 a few weeks ago to today's 580 cases province-wide (489 of them in the Halifax area). That may not sound like a lot in some places, but this is a very small Province with a population of only 979,449 people. This is quite a blow, but I trust our Premier and Dr. Strang's team to do what's best. All along, they have been consistently proactive, rather than reactive like Ontario and some other Provinces who are in extreme crisis now. I will comply, of course, and hope against hope all Nova Scotians will do the same for the sake of themselves and others. Some were fined recently for non-compliance, which is sooooo discouraging. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/covid-19-update-nova-scotia-april-27-1.6003300

formerlyme, this is very discouraging news, I hope you and your family remain safe. I too have nothing but contempt for those that won't follow the rules, their actions make it harder on all.

We are finally getting out of lockdown in Scotland. We went into lockdown (again) the day after xmas. We were finally able to leave our immediate area on April 16th. We took a drive to Glencoe to sprinkle some of my son's ashes the week after. I've had both jabs and will go into Glasgow on Monday for an eye exam (my glasses are scratched and I need a new prescription anyway). Haircut May 18th.
Masks are still mandatory. Alcohol can only be served outdoors.
Last week one person died of Covid in Scotland (population 5million) and 130 new cases.
It is still against the rules to leave the UK and to enter the US. But I expect it to be okay by end of May or June. We want to go the last week of July.

Biden Team Launches Website, Text Messages to Locate Vaccines Source: Bloomberg President Joe Biden’s administration has launched a website, text-message tool and phone hotline to link Americans with Covid-19 shots near them as the pace of vaccination in the U.S. has plateaued. An existing vaccine locater site, VaccineFinder.org, has relaunched as Vaccines.gov, along with a new Spanish-language equivalent, Vacunas.gov. People in the U.S. will be able to text their ZIP code to GETVAX (438829) or VACUNA (822862) to see locations near them with available doses, or call a toll-free number with service in more than 150 languages. “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to get vaccinated,” Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said in a statement. “By making it easier to find a vaccine, we will help people take a big step towards protecting themselves against Covid-19 and returning to their lives.” The move comes as U.S. vaccination levels plateau, signaling a diminishing pool of people who will actively seek out shots. In the past week, an average of 2.63 million doses a day have been administered, according to the Bloomberg Vaccine Tracker, compared with a high of 3 million a day several weeks ago. The campaign is now shifting focus to those who are either skeptical about vaccination or are harder to reach. Some good news: I just had my appointment for my second Covid Pfizer shot moved up from July 14, to June 23rd. Yippeee!
P.S. - Nova Scotia has our 3rd wave of covid-19 under relative control. May 7th we hit a peak number of new daily cases of 223, and they are now down to less than 20 new cases daily for the past week. May 11, active cases in our Province totaled 1,591 (most in my city's area), and as of today the total active cases province-wide are down to 147. This is remembering that Nova Scotia has only a population of 979,449.
This good progress is thanks to those in charge being very proactive, with constant testing, contact tracing, an efficient vaccination program, and a mostly cooperative citizenry. We are now in the first phase of loosening some restrictions, going cautiously with 'baby steps' over 5 gradual phases of 2-4 weeks, which will take us into late summer or early autumn.

We need to see more like this... San Francisco to 37,000 city employees: Get vaccinated for COVID or get out SAN FRANCISCO – In an announcement Wednesday evening, the city of San Francisco told its 37,000 employees they must either be vaccinated against COVID-19 within 10 weeks of the Food and Drug Administration giving final approval to a coronavirus vaccine, or lose their jobs. This would make San Francisco the first large U.S. city to require vaccination of all city employees. "It's quite straightforward – it's my job to protect the safety of our employees; I am exercising my duty under the San Francisco charter to do just that," said Carol Isen, the human resources director for the city and county of San Francisco. The vaccination policy released by the city on Wednesday said "failure to comply with this policy may result in discipline up to and including termination of employment." www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/san-francisco-to-37000-city-employees-get-vaccinated-for-covid-or-get-out/ar-AALnvWc

....this needs to happen here. 1 million people in France make vaccine appointments after Macron warning More than 1 million people in France have made appointments to get the coronavirus vaccine after French President Emmanuel Macron said COVID-19 passes would soon be needed for daily activities. Doctolib, the centralized vaccine appointment app for the country, announced Tuesday that 1.3 million people in France signed up to get the coronavirus vaccine, The Associated Press reported. The majority of those who signed up were under 35 years old. The surge in vaccination appointments comes after Macron said proof of a coronavirus vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test or recent recovery from the virus would be needed to go into restaurants and stores. A COVID-19 pass would be needed to get on planes and trains as well. www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/1-million-people-in-france-make-vaccine-appointments-after-macron-warning/ar-AAM7dFG

102 new cases in our county since July 7th. 6 of the new cases were breakthroughs... positive tests in those already vaccinated. All others were in unvaccinated people. Most of the cases were in ages between 25 and 35 years of age. One death. That was an 85 year old lady who was unvaccinated.
Understand, we live in a VERY red state. Neighbor three houses north flies a Trump flag. Yet, the unvaccinated percent in our state is small compared to a couple neighboring states... Missouri and Arkansas. Due to the Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City Missouri "blend", our State Department of Health is fearful of a bleed over from Missouri.
